Over the last decade Maltepe has been one of the districts with the most intensive urban renewal. In Bağlarbaşı, Feyzullah, Cevizli and İdealtepe, new buildings with wide balconies are replacing old apartment blocks. Balconies in new buildings are usually 1.5–2 metres deep and open onto the living room, an ideal base for a double-glazed glass balcony that turns the balcony into year-round living space.
In renewal buildings, having the glass balcony fitted right after handover and before the furniture arrives speeds up installation and makes it easier to protect new floors and paintwork.
In higher neighbourhoods such as Başıbüyük, Gülsuyu and Esenkent the northerly wind is pronounced. Here we prefer systems with sash locks, brush and EPDM seals, and recommend 10 mm tempered glass on upper floors.
Because of truck traffic on the coast road and E-5 links, windscreen chips are common. Repairing a chip early with resin, before the crack spreads, often avoids a replacement; the repair takes about 30 minutes and is usually covered without excess on comprehensive policies. We also provide mobile service in car parks around Maltepe University and the coastal park.
Narrow balconies less than a metre deep are common in the older blocks of Cevizli and Altıntepe. Here a sliding glass balcony, whose sashes never swing inwards, is the most practical way to enclose the balcony without losing space.
Tip: Sticking clear tape over a chip straight away keeps dust and moisture out and improves repair quality.
