What are pleated blinds and insect screens?
A pleated blind is a fabric that folds like an accordion and moves between two slim profiles. On glass balconies it is fitted to each panel separately, so the blind moves together with the panel when it opens or closes. A pleated insect screen works on the same principle as a horizontally moving mesh and keeps mosquitoes and insects out when the balcony is left open.
Advantages
- Moves with the panel: Attached to each panel, it does not block folding or sliding systems.
- Light control: Opens top-down or bottom-up to set light and privacy as you like.
- Heat balance: Helps lower the temperature on sun-facing balconies in summer.
- Compact: Stacks into a strip just a few centimetres wide.
- Fabric choice: Sheer, semi-blackout and blackout fabrics in various colours.
Who is it for?
Ideal for south and west-facing balconies with strong sun, flats close to the building opposite that need privacy, and anyone who wants insect-free summer evenings on the balcony. It can be retrofitted to an existing glass balcony; even if we did not install the system, we measure it and produce a compatible solution.
What affects the price
Pricing is per m² and depends on fabric type (sheer, semi-blackout, blackout), profile colour, number of panels and panel height. Many narrow panels need more accessories than a few wide ones covering the same area. When ordered with a new glass balcony, measuring and fitting are done in one go; just mention your needs when you request a quote.
Maintenance
Pleated fabrics have a dust-repellent surface; wiping with a damp cloth is enough. Clean the screen mesh with a soft brush. Checking the cords and guide profiles once a year keeps the blinds folding smoothly.
