The project story
Need
The newly handed-over flat had a 6-metre balcony facing south-west. The family wanted to use it as a dining area and be able to control the afternoon sun. Finishing before the furniture arrived was important.
Solution
After confirming the facade colour with the building management, we fitted a white-profile folding glass balcony with 8 mm clear tempered glass. The sashes can stack to both sides, so the middle of the balcony can open fully. Pleated blinds designed together with the glass balcony were mounted inside the profiles; adjustable from top and bottom, they block the sun without hiding the view. Installation was completed in one day, with covers laid to protect the new floor and paintwork.
Process
At the survey we considered the sun angle as well as the balcony dimensions; the pleated blind fabric was chosen in a semi-translucent shade that softens the light without hiding the view. Profile, blind rails and lock hardware were all matching white.
Result
The balcony was ready to use when the furniture moved in. The family uses it open in summer and closed in the shoulder seasons; the pleated blinds noticeably reduce afternoon heat.
