A guillotine glass system whose panels move vertically up and down, usually motorised with remote control. Uninterrupted views for terraces, cafés, restaurants and large balconies.
A guillotine glass system is a frame in which stacked glass panels move vertically. The lowest panel acts as a fixed balustrade; the upper panels rise or fall via a motor and chain or belt mechanism. You can set the whole opening half or fully open. With no vertical joints between panels, no mullions interrupt the view.
Advantages
Uninterrupted view: Large single panes without vertical profiles.
Stepped opening: Open only the top for ventilation and keep the bottom closed for safety.
Comfort: Motorised systems run on a remote or wall switch; a rain sensor can be added.
Suitable for villa terraces, penthouses, café and restaurant fronts, hotel lobbies and wide balconies. On narrow balconies a folding system may be more efficient; we compare both during the survey. For businesses, municipal and building permits, and for homes, management approval under condominium law, should be clarified before installation.
What affects the price
The price of an automatic guillotine system depends on the opening width and height, number of panels, motor and control type, glass type (single tempered or double glazing), profile colour and floor-ceiling fixing details. Manual systems are cheaper, but motorised systems are recommended for wide openings. Use the price calculator or get a quote.
Safety
Motorised guillotine systems include a safety function that stops panel movement when an obstacle is detected, plus manual operation during a power cut. As the bottom panel is fixed, balustrade height is kept even when the glass is fully open — an important safeguard for families with children and commercial venues. All panels are tempered safety glass with polished edges.
Maintenance
The motor and drive sit inside a closed housing; an annual service check is enough. Belt tension, limit settings and seals are checked. The glass can be cleaned with ordinary glass cleaner.

“We had a motorised guillotine system fitted on our terrace. Opening it by remote is very practical and it does not block the view at all.”

Frequently asked
Who is a guillotine glass system suitable for?+
A guillotine system opens panes vertically, usually with a motor. It suits large terraces, restaurants, cafés and homeowners who want an uninterrupted view, as there are no vertical sash profiles in the line of sight. It can be operated by remote control or integrated with smart home systems. The load-bearing capacity of the ceiling and floor must be checked during the survey.
