Bosphorus-View Guillotine Glass System in Çengelköy
A motorised guillotine glass system operated by remote control was installed in front of a Bosphorus-facing terrace in Çengelköy. Large glass panes keep the view uninterrupted.

The project story
Need
The owners wanted to use their Bosphorus-facing terrace on windy and cool evenings as well. With a folding system the number of sashes would add vertical lines to the view, which they wanted to avoid. The terrace also had to be fully open in summer.
Solution
For the 3.2-metre opening we proposed a two-module motorised guillotine glass system. In each module the glass lowers down to railing height; fully closed, it shelters the terrace from the wind. The system works with one touch and by remote control, and its obstacle detection stops the glass if it touches an object while moving. At the survey we pointed out that a municipal opinion would be needed for facade changes in the area; installation took place after the owners completed the permit process.
Process
The motor and control unit were placed inside the bottom frame for easy maintenance access. On site we explained the system’s manual override and how the glass can be left half-open for ventilation in winter.
Result
The terrace is now used for most of the year. Thanks to the large panes the view looks almost frameless; in summer, with the glass lowered, the terrace is fully open.
