Frequently asked

How long does a windscreen replacement take, and when can I drive?

On most passenger cars a windscreen replacement takes 45–60 minutes on average. You can usually drive about 1 hour later, once the polyurethane adhesive reaches safe drive-away strength; temperature and humidity can affect this, and our technician will tell you the exact time. For the first 24 hours, avoid high-pressure washing and slamming the doors.

When can a chip be repaired and when must the glass be replaced?

As a rule, chips no larger than a coin, outside the driver’s direct line of sight and away from the glass edge can be repaired with resin injection. If a crack has started to spread, sits in the driver’s field of view or reaches the edge, replacement is required. Leaving a chip invites cracking from temperature changes and vibration, so have it checked as soon as possible to keep repair an option.

Will a car with a cracked windscreen pass the inspection?

During vehicle inspection, cracks or breaks in the windscreen may be recorded as defects, especially if they affect the driver’s field of view, and can make passing harder. The assessment follows the inspection station’s current criteria. If your inspection date is approaching, have the glass checked in advance: small chips can often be repaired, while larger cracks require replacement.

Is ADAS calibration needed after windscreen replacement?

If your car has a windscreen-mounted camera for lane keeping, emergency braking, traffic sign recognition or adaptive cruise control, yes. When the glass is replaced the camera angle can shift by fractions of a millimetre and the systems may misjudge distances. After replacement we perform static or dynamic calibration to manufacturer specifications and document the result. Check your car’s ADAS equipment by choosing make and model in our vehicle selector.

Do you offer mobile car glass service? Can window film be applied on site?

Yes. In our service areas we can replace windscreens, side and rear glass at your home, workplace or car park; we just need a safe working space around the car. In rainy or very cold weather we recommend a covered area or our service point so the adhesive cures correctly. Window film needs a dust-free environment, so it is applied at our service points.

Is there an excess on insured glass replacement, and will I lose my no-claims discount?

This depends entirely on your policy. Many comprehensive policies include a set number of excess-free glass replacements per year and glass claims do not affect the no-claims discount; however, some policies have an excess, an equivalent-glass condition or other limits. When we receive your request we obtain pre-approval from your insurer using your policy details and tell you clearly, before any work, if you have anything to pay.

Good to know

Car glass replacement and repair

Car glass does more than give you a view: the windscreen is part of the body’s structural strength and helps the airbag deploy correctly in a crash. That is why car glass replacement needs the right glass and the right bonding technique. For every job the İKİZLER team identifies the correct glass from the vehicle’s chassis number, removes the old adhesive, applies primer and polyurethane adhesive to the manufacturer’s instructions and tells you clearly when the car can be driven again.

Windscreen replacement

Windscreen replacement is our most frequent job. Cracks in the field of view, breaks near the edge and growing chips usually mean the glass has to be replaced. Equipment such as rain and light sensors, heated glass, acoustic glass or a head-up display determines the glass type. On most cars the replacement takes 45–60 minutes.

Side and rear glass

A broken door window leaves the car insecure. During a side window replacement we also clean out the glass fragments inside the door and check the window regulator. On heated rear screens we test the heating element and aerial connections after a rear window replacement.

Chip repair

A small stone chip can quickly turn into a crack with temperature changes and vibration. Chips no larger than a coin and not right in the centre of the driver’s view are fixed with windscreen chip repair by injecting resin, in about half an hour. It is cheaper than replacing the glass and keeps the original windscreen.

Insurance-covered glass replacement

If glass breakage is covered by your comprehensive policy or a separate glass cover, we run the insurance-covered glass replacement process for you. We open the claim with your policy details, obtain the insurer’s approval and repair the car. If there is an excess or contribution we tell you in advance. Because the effect of a glass claim on your claims record can vary by policy and insurer, we clarify this with you before the work. See the insurance glass replacement page for our partner insurers and the process.

Why ADAS calibration matters

Driver assistance systems such as lane keeping, emergency braking and traffic sign recognition rely on a camera mounted on the windscreen. When the glass is replaced, the camera angle can shift by fractions of a millimetre. That is why ADAS calibration is a step that must follow the replacement. Using static or dynamic calibration we reset the camera to the manufacturer’s values and give you a report.

What determines the windscreen replacement price?

The windscreen replacement price depends on the make, model and year of the car, the glass equipment (sensors, heating, acoustic layer, camera bracket), the choice of OEM or OEM-equivalent glass and whether ADAS calibration is needed. Select your make and model to get a quote and find out stock and appointment details right away.
