Insurance glass replacement step by step

  1. Call us or fill in the form

Tell us your plate, the policy holder’s name and the damaged glass. Send a photo on WhatsApp if you have one.

  2. We open the claim

We notify your insurer on your behalf; with most insurers approval comes the same day without an assessor.

  3. Approval and appointment

Once approved, we reserve the glass from stock and book a time at our workshop or your address.

  4. Replacement and calibration

OEM-equivalent glass is fitted; if your car has an ADAS camera, it is calibrated and reported.

  5. Invoice to the insurer

We invoice your insurer directly. You only pay the excess if your policy has one.

Documents needed

  • Vehicle registration (a photo is enough)
  • Policy holder’s ID number and phone
  • Photo of the damaged glass (optional, speeds up approval)
  • Letter of consent if the registered owner and policy holder differ

With comprehensive or glass insurance you pay nothing upfront; we open the claim on your behalf.

Most asked questions

What is an excess?
Some policies have a fixed amount you pay for glass damage (the excess). We check your policy with you and tell you the amount in advance.
Is ADAS calibration covered?
If the windscreen is replaced under insurance, the required ADAS calibration is covered by most policies. We get the insurer’s approval before invoicing calibration separately.
Does it create a damage record?
Glass-only damage generally does not affect the vehicle’s damage history in a way that reduces its value, though the claim is recorded by the insurer. You can confirm details with your insurer.
Will I lose my no-claims discount?
With many policies glass claims do not affect your no-claims discount. Terms differ by insurer, so we check together before opening the claim.

Frequently asked

Is there an excess on insured glass replacement, and will I lose my no-claims discount?

This depends entirely on your policy. Many comprehensive policies include a set number of excess-free glass replacements per year and glass claims do not affect the no-claims discount; however, some policies have an excess, an equivalent-glass condition or other limits. When we receive your request we obtain pre-approval from your insurer using your policy details and tell you clearly, before any work, if you have anything to pay.

What if my insurer is not on your partner list?

We can also work with insurers we have no agreement with. In that case the process usually runs as reimbursement: we carry out the replacement and prepare the invoice and documents, and you submit them to your insurer to claim the amount back. Some insurers may require an assessor inspection. We recommend calling your insurer together with us before work starts to confirm which route applies.

Does glass replacement show up on the vehicle damage record (Tramer/SBM)?

Glass replacements claimed on comprehensive insurance may appear in the Insurance Information and Monitoring Centre (SBM) records when the insurer opens a claim. In most cases, however, glass damage is not treated like body or mechanical damage and its effect on vehicle value is usually limited. How it is recorded depends on the insurer; please check with yours for certainty. Replacements you pay for yourself create no insurance record.

Which documents are needed for an insured glass replacement?

Usually the vehicle registration, your policy number or insurer name, the driver’s ID details and a photo of the damaged glass are enough. We open the claim on your behalf and handle correspondence with the insurer. In some cases the insurer may ask for an additional statement or an assessor inspection. See our insurance glass replacement page for details.
