Sliding Glass Balcony

What is a sliding glass balcony?

A sliding glass balcony consists of glass panels moving horizontally on two or three parallel tracks. The panels do not fold; they slide in front of each other. Operation is very simple: hold a panel and push it aside. As the mechanism is simple, it needs little adjustment and runs trouble-free for years.

Folding or sliding?

The main difference is the opening ratio. With sliding systems the panels overlap, so roughly half to two thirds of the opening can be used; a folding system opens almost fully. On the other hand, sliding systems are more economical, need fewer accessories and do not take up space on narrow balconies because the panels never swing inwards.

Advantages

  • Affordable glass balcony prices and fast production
  • Panels do not open inwards, leaving furniture placement free
  • Few moving parts and low maintenance
  • Optional insect screen and lock integration
  • A practical solution for kitchen, laundry and narrow balconies

Who is it for?

Suitable for families who mostly keep the balcony closed and put budget and practicality first, as well as tenants and buy-to-let owners. Its plain look also makes management approval easier on sites with facade rules.

What affects the price

The price per m² depends on the number of tracks (2 or 3), glass thickness, profile colour and the number of corners. Corners use fixed joining profiles, so balconies with many corners may cost more. Use the price calculator or request a quote.

Glass and colour options

Sliding systems use 8 mm tempered clear glass as standard. Smoked or bronze glass suits sunny facades, and frosted glass is an option where privacy matters. Profiles come in white, anthracite and anodised finishes; choosing a colour that matches the facade also makes management approval easier.

Maintenance

Cleaning dust and leaves from the track channels is the key step. Keeping the drainage holes clear prevents rainwater from collecting. If the wheels stick, a service adjustment takes only minutes.

Frequently asked

Folding or sliding: which glass balcony system suits me?

A folding system stacks all panes to one side and opens the balcony almost completely in summer, ideal if you want a wide opening. A sliding system moves panes over each other on tracks; it is more economical and practical on narrow balconies, but part of the opening always stays glazed. Balcony size, how you use the space and your budget decide. See our folding or sliding article for a detailed comparison.
