Frequently asked questions

The most common questions about glass balconies, car glass, insurance, warranty and payment.

General

Is the survey and measurement free?

No. Within our Istanbul service areas the survey and measurement are free and carry no obligation. Our specialist inspects your balcony or car on site, takes measurements and explains the suitable system or glass options. You then receive a written quote; if you do not accept it, you pay nothing. To book, fill in the quote form or give us a call.

Which areas do you serve?

We work on both the Asian and European sides of Istanbul. Our main service centre and showroom is in Ümraniye, and our European-side service point is in Beylikdüzü. Teams regularly cover Kadıköy, Ataşehir, Üsküdar, Maltepe, Kartal, Pendik, Sancaktepe, Çekmeköy, Beşiktaş, Bakırköy and nearby districts. See the service areas page for your nearest team and estimated arrival time.

Can I get both glass balcony and car glass services from you?

Yes. İKİZLER OTO CAM handles glass balconies, winter gardens, pergolas and shower enclosures for homes and businesses, plus windscreen, side and rear glass replacement, chip repair and ADAS calibration for vehicles, all under one roof. Each service has its own specialist team, but you deal with a single point of contact and a single warranty lookup system.

How quickly do you respond to requests?

During working hours we call back within an average of 30 minutes. For car glass requests we usually confirm stock and appointment details in the same call. Requests left outside working hours are called first thing on the next business day. For urgent windscreen damage, sending a photo via our WhatsApp line speeds things up.

Glass balcony

Do I need permission from building management or neighbours for a glass balcony?

It depends on your building. A glass balcony may be subject to your building’s management plan and a decision of the owners’ board; some complexes prescribe profile colour and system type to keep the facade uniform. We recommend checking your management plan and talking to your building manager before installation. During the survey we can prepare technical details and visuals you can present to the management. For a legal assessment, please consult a professional.

Does a glass balcony provide thermal insulation?

Standard single-glazed systems block wind, rain and dust and make the balcony usable in shoulder seasons, but they do not provide true thermal insulation. If you need real insulation, choose a double-glazed glass balcony: the air or gas gap between the panes and an optional Low-E coating significantly reduce heat loss. Seal and gasket quality and installation workmanship also have a direct effect on the result.

Folding or sliding: which glass balcony system suits me?

A folding system stacks all panes to one side and opens the balcony almost completely in summer, ideal if you want a wide opening. A sliding system moves panes over each other on tracks; it is more economical and practical on narrow balconies, but part of the opening always stays glazed. Balcony size, how you use the space and your budget decide. See our folding or sliding article for a detailed comparison.

How long does glass balcony installation take?

After measurement, the profiles and glass are made to your dimensions; production usually takes 7–15 business days depending on the system and glass type. Installation on a standard apartment balcony is mostly completed in one day. Corner or very wide balconies, double-glazed systems and high floors requiring scaffolding can take longer. On installation day our team protects the work area and cleans up afterwards.

Who is a guillotine glass system suitable for?

A guillotine system opens panes vertically, usually with a motor. It suits large terraces, restaurants, cafés and homeowners who want an uninterrupted view, as there are no vertical sash profiles in the line of sight. It can be operated by remote control or integrated with smart home systems. The load-bearing capacity of the ceiling and floor must be checked during the survey.

Car glass

How long does a windscreen replacement take, and when can I drive?

On most passenger cars a windscreen replacement takes 45–60 minutes on average. You can usually drive about 1 hour later, once the polyurethane adhesive reaches safe drive-away strength; temperature and humidity can affect this, and our technician will tell you the exact time. For the first 24 hours, avoid high-pressure washing and slamming the doors.

When can a chip be repaired and when must the glass be replaced?

As a rule, chips no larger than a coin, outside the driver’s direct line of sight and away from the glass edge can be repaired with resin injection. If a crack has started to spread, sits in the driver’s field of view or reaches the edge, replacement is required. Leaving a chip invites cracking from temperature changes and vibration, so have it checked as soon as possible to keep repair an option.

Will a car with a cracked windscreen pass the inspection?

During vehicle inspection, cracks or breaks in the windscreen may be recorded as defects, especially if they affect the driver’s field of view, and can make passing harder. The assessment follows the inspection station’s current criteria. If your inspection date is approaching, have the glass checked in advance: small chips can often be repaired, while larger cracks require replacement.

Is ADAS calibration needed after windscreen replacement?

If your car has a windscreen-mounted camera for lane keeping, emergency braking, traffic sign recognition or adaptive cruise control, yes. When the glass is replaced the camera angle can shift by fractions of a millimetre and the systems may misjudge distances. After replacement we perform static or dynamic calibration to manufacturer specifications and document the result. Check your car’s ADAS equipment by choosing make and model in our vehicle selector.

Do you offer mobile car glass service? Can window film be applied on site?

Yes. In our service areas we can replace windscreens, side and rear glass at your home, workplace or car park; we just need a safe working space around the car. In rainy or very cold weather we recommend a covered area or our service point so the adhesive cures correctly. Window film needs a dust-free environment, so it is applied at our service points.

Insurance

Is there an excess on insured glass replacement, and will I lose my no-claims discount?

This depends entirely on your policy. Many comprehensive policies include a set number of excess-free glass replacements per year and glass claims do not affect the no-claims discount; however, some policies have an excess, an equivalent-glass condition or other limits. When we receive your request we obtain pre-approval from your insurer using your policy details and tell you clearly, before any work, if you have anything to pay.

What if my insurer is not on your partner list?

We can also work with insurers we have no agreement with. In that case the process usually runs as reimbursement: we carry out the replacement and prepare the invoice and documents, and you submit them to your insurer to claim the amount back. Some insurers may require an assessor inspection. We recommend calling your insurer together with us before work starts to confirm which route applies.

Does glass replacement show up on the vehicle damage record (Tramer/SBM)?

Glass replacements claimed on comprehensive insurance may appear in the Insurance Information and Monitoring Centre (SBM) records when the insurer opens a claim. In most cases, however, glass damage is not treated like body or mechanical damage and its effect on vehicle value is usually limited. How it is recorded depends on the insurer; please check with yours for certainty. Replacements you pay for yourself create no insurance record.

Which documents are needed for an insured glass replacement?

Usually the vehicle registration, your policy number or insurer name, the driver’s ID details and a photo of the damaged glass are enough. We open the claim on your behalf and handle correspondence with the insurer. In some cases the insurer may ask for an additional statement or an assessor inspection. See our insurance glass replacement page for details.

Warranty & service

How do I check my warranty certificate?

The certificate you receive after installation or glass replacement contains a warranty code. Enter that code and the last 4 digits of your registered phone number on the warranty check page to see whether your warranty is valid, which service it covers and when it ends. If you have lost your code, call us; after verifying your identity we will find your record and send it again.

What does the warranty cover and exclude?

The warranty covers manufacturing and installation defects such as profile and mechanism faults, installation-related leaks or sealing problems, and on car glass, noise, water or wind leaks caused by bonding. Misuse, impacts, stone strikes, natural disasters, unauthorised tampering and normal wear are excluded. The period varies by service and is stated on your certificate.

Are service and maintenance charged during the warranty?

For faults covered by the warranty there is no charge for labour or parts. Periodic maintenance such as glass balcony roller adjustment or shower enclosure hinge and seal checks may be charged separately outside the warranty; this maintenance extends the system’s life. Sharing your warranty code when reporting a fault helps us find your record and send the team with the right parts.

Price & payment

Which payment methods do you accept? Do you offer instalments?

We accept cash, bank transfer/EFT and credit card. Credit card instalment options depend on your bank; we will tell you the current options at the quote stage. For insured glass replacements you pay nothing for the amount covered by the insurer; you only pay an excess if your policy has one.

Do prices include VAT?

Estimates shown by the price calculator on our site include VAT. The written quote you receive after the survey states the VAT status and every line item separately. The calculator gives an estimated range only; factors such as floor height, number of corners, profile colour and scaffolding determine the final price.

Do you take a deposit for glass balcony orders?

For made-to-measure work such as glass balconies, winter gardens and pergolas, part of the total is taken as a deposit when the quote is approved so production can start; the balance is paid when installation is complete. The deposit rate and payment plan are stated clearly in the written quote and agreement. No deposit is taken for car glass work; payment is made when the job is done.
